What are you going to be when you grow up?

And how are you going to GET THERE?

Most people are asked these questions numerous times throughout their childhood and college years. However, in a world where the average adult has 12 jobs and 3-4 careers (and current students/new grads will experience even more!), it is not realistic to ask what one thing you are going to be and when you are going to get there.  So how do you design your career so that you can have a fruitful next step (and future steps)?

You may be familiar with the engineering concepts of Design Thinking:  Fail Fast; Progress over Perfection; Iterative Design; Human Centered Design. These are amongst some of the more popular phrases that have become mainstream from this work over the last 30 years.  In this course, we will evolve these concepts and apply it to your career exploration. Whether you are looking for the first step in your career, the next step in your career, or looking to step into a new career, the framework in this course will help you assess what success looks like and how to get started. You will walk away with a blueprint on how to design the current and future iterations of your career!

You may notice I said "...how to get started", not "...how to get there".  This is because there are very few times in life when we get to a THERE.  Just like the design thinking principles around product design, your career is a series of iterations - learning, tweaking the goal, improving, testing a second time, etc.  So, in this course, we get you started in thinking about long term goals, give you the tools to continue to improve your career, and a blueprint to attain the short term goals.
